The care of children experience brings extensive experience to residents in a variety of settings throughout our community. The outpatient experience includes the pediatric clinics at the Vista Family Health Center, the school-based Roseland Children’s Health Center, and the Kaiser Santa Rosa Pediatric Clinic. These settings expose our residents to various populations and health systems to ensure a broad experience in preventive health care as well as management of common and complex childhood conditions. The inpatient experience is based at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa during the first year of residency, where the resident is an integral member of the teaching service. During the second year, our residents rotate at the Emergency Department at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland where they manage ill children with a wide range of medical conditions. Residents also gain experience caring for children with complex diseases during their subspecialty rotation (see “Specialty Experiences”). Elective opportunities are available including pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital, as well as clinics focusing on adolescent medicine, pediatric subspecialties, and pediatric urgent care. Our residents graduate with the ability to provide high quality personalized care for all children.
