Maddie Hill, MD

Picture
University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
Born in Vermont and raised in a small town in Western Massachusetts, a community-centered mentality was instilled in Maddie from an early age. She moved to the vibrant college town of Chapel Hill, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina. Her studies have taken her from community health centers in Peru to the lively streets of Barcelona, where she spent a semester immersed in the Spanish language and culture. Closer to home, she found deep joy and connection while volunteering with Camp Kesem, an organization that offers a safe and uplifting space for children affected by their parents’ cancer.
Before starting medical school, Maddie worked for three years in clinical research with the Institute for Trauma Recovery at UNC and with Cardiothoracic Surgery at Duke. She found meaning in being a trusted resource for patients during their most vulnerable moments—immediately preceding a traumatic event and throughout their journey in receiving a lung or heart transplant. During this time and throughout the COVID pandemic, she developed a love for yoga and an appreciation for the mind-body connection.

She completed her first two years of medical school in Chapel Hill, NC, and later moved to Asheville, NC, for her clinical phase of training, where she recognized her passion for relationship-based continuity of care. Throughout medical school, Maddie championed mental health and well-being, trauma-informed care, and inclusive care practices while staying rooted in her passion for medical humanities and narrative writing. She developed an admiration for the pink and red alpenglow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, spending time reading and writing by the French Broad River and keeping up with the latest pop culture moments (ask her about the Eras Tour!). She is eternally grateful to her family, friends, and wonderful mentors for all their love and support and is overjoyed to be joining the Sutter Santa Rosa team.
