The Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency has developed an innovative cross-cultural curriculum aimed at enhancing cultural awareness and emphasizing its value towards improving patient care. The program's Culturally Mindful Curriculum takes a three-progned approach that spans the three years of residency training. First, there are formal resident didactics. These include targeted cultural exploration exercises for residents, a diversity lecture series, a medical Spanish course, resident culturally-oriented talks, and medical assistant led panel discussions. Secondly, there are informal resident-sponsored activities taht promote community-building amoung residency and FQHC staff. These activities include "Lunchtime en Espanol" and Diversity Movie Night. Finally, in order to enhance community involvement the residency continues its sponsorship of the Latino Health Forum, residents/staff/faculty volunteer as Puente mnetors to disadvantages Santa Rosa Junior College students, and has integrated patient participation in the resident educational activities listed above.
