Khuzeman Abbasi, MD

Medical University of the Americas. Khuzeman Abbasi was born in Hyderabad, Pakistan and raised in Maryland, where he completed his undergraduate education before earning his medical degree. He completed his first year of Family Medicine residency training in Española, New Mexico and is excited to be joining the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program.

Prior to residency, Dr. Abbasi completed a clinical research fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where his work focused on autonomic dysfunction and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome in patients with Long COVID. He also completed a critical care pre-residency fellowship at the University of New Mexico with a focus on neuro-critical care, including experience in neurological and cardiovascular intensive care units, which strengthened his clinical foundation and interest in caring for medically complex patients.

His passion for Family Medicine lies in its emphasis on continuity, relationship-centered care, and addressing the medical, behavioral, and social needs of patients across the lifespan. He has strong interests in addiction medicine, obesity medicine, and behavioral health, with a particular focus on addressing stigma and barriers to care surrounding substance use and mental health disorders —especially within Muslim and other culturally diverse communities where these conditions are often underrecognized or highly stigmatized. During residency, he has worked with underserved populations and has been involved in community-focused initiatives, research, and teaching.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Abbasi enjoys spending time with his family, writing, reflective learning, and maintaining balance through meaningful personal interests.
