Navneet Deol, DO, MS
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine; Born and raised in Solano County, California, Navneet “Navi” Deol is the first person in her family to attend medical school. As the eldest child of Punjabi immigrants, Navi was exposed to healthcare discrepancies at a young age as the primary translator and health literacy navigator for her non English speaking grandparents with chronic health conditions.
Before medical school, Navi was a pharmacy technician in an underserved location close to her home. Here, she was exposed to the many socioeconomic barriers vulnerable populations encounter while accessing health care. |
It was her first exposure to addiction and the opioid epidemic which fueled her desire to become a physician well versed in addressing the social, political, and cultural needs of underserved patients. She continued her desire to learn more about the intersection of science, technology, politics, and society with an emphasis on mental health by pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Science Technology Studies with a minor in Psychology at UC Davis. Community and family have always been foundational in Navi’s life and she was excited to engage with community outreach while attending medical school locally at Touro University. Throughout medical school, Navi engaged with preventative care education and outreach activities by becoming a CDC Certified Diabetes Lifestyle Coach. She taught diabetes prevention and management classes with culturally sensitive nutrition education to elderly Punjabi community members at her local Sikh Temple. Navi believes healthy communities are key to a healthy and happy society, and a healthy society can only be achieved when health care is equitable and accessible to ALL. Navi is beyond thrilled to begin her residency training at Sutter Santa Rosa and further develop her professional interests in community medicine, women’s health, addiction medicine, integrative medicine, preventative medicine, and healthcare equality. Outside of medicine you can catch Navi spending quality time with her family and friends, watching reruns of The Office, trying out a new pizza recipe, or zumbaing her way to brunch after her group workout class.
