Elective Rotation: Advocacy

Contact: Jacqueline Abdalla
Location: Santa Rosa, SF, Oakland
During these to weeks I was able to focus on advocacy work, particularly surrounding criminal justice reform, immigrant rights, and health care. Some of these things were self-led, but I also had the opportunity to learn from leaders in our residency program (like Panna Loussi) and community (Comite Vida, ACLU, Organizers for Action, Drug Policy Alliance, etc). Experiences: Spoke at the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors meeting advocating for immigrant rights; prepared for a Grand Rounds lecture on mass incarceration; met with CA state Assemblyman Jim Wood and Senator Feinstein advocating for criminal justice reform and protection of reproductive rights; met with county public defender to work on fair treatment for our patients from the jail, etc.
