Elective Rotation: Care of Preterm Infant

While on my last week AMS medicine, I talked my cousin through a placental abruption and she gave birth of 30 week twin boys. They had several common complications, and I took this elective time to learn what it is like to care for a premature child once it is discharged from the hospital. We often deliver these children while on OB and we never have any follow up with them as they often go to pediatricians until they are more stable. I went with them to their weight check, PT appointments, ophthalmology exam. It was a very enlightening experience because I was able to finally experience the difference and I will be a better physician because of it.
