Elective Rotation: HIV Elective (online and international)

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
I spent two weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina during an elective that was partially completed online (and this part could be done from Santa Rosa). There is an online curriculum for HIV medicine that is free through the University of Washington and qualifies as CME as well. It is full of case presentations, photos, various different HIV-related topics, and has links to references for guidelines, etc. on HIV care. I did this in Argentina to allow for Spanish immersion while I wasn’t doing the online course, and to meet with a woman from El Huesped, an HIV/AIDS social work organization who partners with the infectious disease department of a large hospital in BA and works with newly diagnosed HIV patients at the time of diagnosis and thereafter. Meeting with her was quite interesting to learn about what they do, though it might have made more sense to meet with a clinician. Either way, I loved the elective and learned a lot.
