Elective Rotation: Obesity in the South Pacific
Location: Cook Islands
We designed a two week elective including literature review, interviews with local stakeholders, and other informal/formal collection of info (grocery store visits, conversations with community members, cultural education) about the causes of (and hopeful solutions to) obesity in the Cook Islands, a unique South Pacific community with one of the highest rates in the world. We contacted some individuals ahead of time, searched pubmed for articles, and did a lot of active work “on the ground”. We wrote a 20 page summary of our findings.
