Elective Rotation: Spanish Language School in Oaxaca, MX
Contact: Rhianon Liu, Lucero Topete
Location: Oaxaca, Oaxaca, MX
I took Spanish language classes at the Instituto Cultural de Oaxaca (ICO). It was beautiful and the quality of instruction was very high, focused primarily on speaking. I took general Spanish classes in the morning and then arranged private medical Spanish tutoring in the afternoons. The school also has language partners, cultural activities, and organizes excursions to visit local attractions. Oaxaca itself is an incredible city–full of culture, food, mezcal, and surrounded by amazing archaeological sites. Highly recommend!

Review of Spanish rotation
From: Roseann Day
I also spent elective away taking Spanish classes at ICO. The first week I did the group class program and private classes (focused on medical Spanish) in the afternoon, while the second week I did conversation hours in the morning and continued the medical Spanish classes in the afternoon. I liked both experiences, and opted for more conversation in the latter half since my primary goal was to improve production (rather than comprehension or grammar). I did a home stay which I enjoyed and was conveniently located, though many other students were in apartment rentals and had good experiences. I loved being in Oaxaca and would highly recommend the experience as well- feel free to reach out to me with questions!
