Alexis Hisey, MD, MS
Loyola Stritch School of Medicine.
Born and raised in the foothills of Los Angeles County, Alexis grew up constantly on the move—thanks in part to her two younger brothers. She started dancing at the age of three and continued through college at the University of Oregon, where she studied Psychology and Chemistry. After graduating, she earned a master’s degree in Clinical Global Medicine at USC Keck School of Medicine, where her capstone focused on infant mortality in rural Panama, blending health education with clinical care to address healthcare challenges in resource-limited settings. |
Her path to medicine was shaped by experiences that revealed the deep need for culturally informed, community-driven care. She worked on the Navajo Nation, in an adolescent psychiatric facility, and in an emergency department during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also led research on indicators of morbidity and mortality in very low birthweight infants and long-term effects on health and wellbeing. These experiences highlighted the systemic gaps in care and reinforced her drive to find solutions that are both creative and culturally responsive. The ability to bridge these gaps while building long-term, meaningful relationships with patients made family medicine the perfect fit.
She is excited to continue her journey at Sutter Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, where she will grow as a physician in an environment that values high-quality, culturally responsive care and community-driven medicine; mixed with (more than a little) outdoor adventures, movement, and stellar food.
Outside of medicine, movement remains a core part of her life. After college, she found joy in barre3 and became an instructor, teaching both signature and strength-based classes. She has a deep appreciation for the connection between food and well-being—so much so that she’s on a mission to create the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe that’s both soul and body nourishing (because in an ideal world, cookies should be a breakfast food). When she’s not at the hospital or the studio, she loves spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, exploring, or just soaking up the sun. She’s recently taken up DIY home renovation and design, finding joy in transforming her space—one overly ambitious project and questionable paint color choice at a time.
