Andrew Brown, M.D.

Tufts University School of Medicine, Maine Track; Andrew is from Culver City, where he grew up playing and coaching tennis. He studied Genetics and Plant Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and did research on the homeotic genes that determine floral morphology in Canna (a genus of tropical ginger). Andrew also spent time during college volunteering in the Pueblo Kichwa, Ecuador, where he was exposed to a model of community-based research that centered local expertise and authority. He worked with promotoras from the community to design culturally-relevant educational materials, inspiring him to pursue a career in medicine with the dream to practice in a smaller community and help lead local advocacy efforts. After college, Andrew moved to the Salinas Valley, where he taught high school math and chemistry, worked as an ED scribe in the county hospital, and volunteered with local youth at Building Healthy Communities – East Salinas. For medical school, Andrew chose the Maine Track at Tufts for the unique opportunity to train in Boston, MA, as well as more rural communities in Maine. This led him to experiences including research on cardiovascular disease clinical prediction models, a leadership role in the university’s student-run healthcare org, a successful advocacy campaign within the Tufts community related to Purdue Pharma, and many meaningful experiences with family doctors in both rural and city settings in Maine. Andrew’s professional interests include adolescent care, addiction, community activism, chronic disease management (especially Sutter Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Class of 2025 diabetes), and full-spectrum training (including OB!). During leisure time, Andrew enjoys hiking and camping, fly fishing, cycling, and telling lame hilarious dad jokes. He is thrilled to join the Santa Rosa community, along with his partner Jeanette, and baby Lucía.
