Guille E. Freschl, M.D.

Temple University School of Medicine; Guille was born and raised in nearby Bay Area city Walnut Creek, CA in a mixed race household; her father is white and her mother is Mexican American. Having parents from two very different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds greatly influenced her worldview, including the social inequities built into society, and planted the seeds for her fervent interest in the social determinants of health. She discovered her passion and excitement for medicine while working as a summer intern at a local hospital during high school. Guille then attended UCLA for undergrad where she earned a B.S. in Physiological Sciences. While there, she volunteered with the Chicanos for Community Medicine and conducted clinical research with the UCLA School of Medicine on resident physician-patient communication. After graduation, she worked gaining experience in several different clinical settings before starting medical school in far away Philadelphia. Guille chose Temple for its commitment to underserved urban healthcare, a patient population she had enjoyed working with in Los Angeles. At medical school, Guille served as a peer tutor, a co-president of the Urban Health and Bioethics Interest Group, a member of the Students for Diversity Council, and a mentor with the National Hispanic Medical Association. She first fell in love with Family Medicine after meeting mentors in the specialty, and her interest grew as she recognized its vital role in reversing the health disparities among vulnerable populations. Her current clinical interests are diverse and range from Reproductive Health to Palliative Care to Addiction Medicine to Adolescent Health. In pre-pandemic times, Guille loved traveling (she’s been to 12 countries!), but fortunately, has still been able to continue her other interests of cooking, baking, and exploring the nearby outdoors.
