Lisa Nicholson, M.D.
University of California, Los Angeles; Lisa was born and raised in Sonoma County, and loved growing up surrounded by our rolling hills and oak forests. She went to UC Santa Barbara to study biology, where she was mentored by a parasitologist and developed a passion for global health. After graduation, she taught English abroad for 6 months in central China and two months in Nicaragua before returning to the US to go to medical school at UCLA. While in medical school she coordinated a recurring annual trip to Haiti to provide primary care services to rural Haitian residents. She is also passionate about helping underserved populations here in America. She was active in efforts to sign up Los Angeles residents for health insurance coverage, connect undocumented residents to appropriate local programs, and conducted research aimed at understanding risk factors for homelessness among veterans. Her medical interests include women’s health, global health, integrative medicine, mental health, and improving health care access for undocumented immigrants. In her spare time she likes reading, singing, gardening,yoga, meditation, travel, designing and sewing clothes.
