Mayra Orozco-Llamas, M.D.

University of California, Davis; Mayra was born and raised in Oakland, CA, a proud daughter of Mexican immigrants. Her family’s support and sacrifices inspired her to pursue higher education and give back to her community. Throughout her undergraduate career at UC Davis she volunteered at a free clinic that provides accessible healthcare for the uninsured Latino community of Sacramento. There she developed a passion for addressing health disparities as well as serving and advocating for the members of underserved communities. After college, she served as an AmeriCorps Health Fellow at LifeLong William Jenkins Health Center. There she initiated a weekly veggie giveaway, the Reach out and Read program, and offered health education classes to the surrounding community. She attended UC Davis School of Medicine where she was selected to join TEACH-MS, a program that seeks to improve access to effective, culturally respectful, and equitable health services for urban underserved communities. As a first-generation student, she understands the struggles that many first-generation students who are pursuing higher education face. She enjoys mentoring students who face similar challenges as she did. Her passions include addressing health disparities, advocacy, mentorship, and preventative health. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, paddle boarding, playing games at local breweries, cooking, and spending time with her family, friends, and her cat Lucinda.
