Michael Valdovinos, PsyD, ABPP, Behavioral Medicine Faculty
Michael was born in Santa Rosa, California, and grew up along the Russian River, surfing, BMX riding, and sifting through soul and funk vinyl at record stores across the Bay Area, when he wasn’t playing basketball and toying with electronics. After finishing an associate’s degree at Santa Rosa Junior College, Michael left Sonoma County to pursue undergraduate and graduate work in clinical psychology in Spain, Davis and Los Angeles. He is a recipient of the Department of Defense’s Health Professions Scholarship Program and continued his postgraduate psychology training by serving in the US Air Force as an executive officer and operational psychologist, ultimately earning the rank of Major in the US Air Force. Michael has broad and rich experience having developed and led large scale mental health departments for the federal government and in academia. An innovator at heart, Michael has built award winning health apps while developing national programming for nature focused leadership and psychological first aid for environmental organizations. He currently volunteers to serve his community by hosting a Spanish health and wellness radio show to an audience of 30-40K people across the Bay Area. Curricular interests include teaching, digital health, organizational psychology, leadership/professional development and empirically supported treatments. Outside of work, he is an avid organic farmer who enjoys spending time with his active family, trail running, writing and napping when possible.
