Excellence Integrity Relationship

Rebecca Walton, M.D.

SUNY Downstate College of Medicine; Rebecca was born in California’s Bay Area, but moved to New York City for college, where she majored in neuroscience at New York University. While in college, Rebecca tutored children, worked in neuroscience labs, and was hired by Clinical Directors Network where she worked on a public health research project that investigated the relationship between depression and cancer screening in Latina women in the Bronx. She was thrilled to be accepted to medical school at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. While there, she was exposed to an extremely diverse patient population, which inspired her to lead a cultural humility workshop for medical students. She also learned about profound health disparities and social determinants of health. When she saw the effect of COVID-19 on the community she loved, she worked on a needs assessment initiative to assess and address some of the hardships that her clinic patients were experiencing. Rebecca also realized that she had a passion for integrative medicine, as holistic therapies and mind-body medicine had always seemed natural and intuitive to her. As a result, she established the Integrative/Alternative Medicine Interest Group at her school, and, during the pandemic, used her extra free time improving her yoga practice, learning about Ayurveda, and reading Dr. Andrew Weil’s books. In her future career, Rebecca hopes to practice full-spectrum medicine, provide reproductive care for women, and further enhance her knowledge of integrative medicine. In her free time, she loves listening to podcasts, having lazy nights in with her cat, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, dancing, trying new foods, and Face Timing her friends and family on both coasts!
