Vanessa E. Ramirez, M.D.

Keck School of Medicine of USC; Vanessa is the daughter of Mexican and Salvadoran immigrants, middle child of 3, and the first in her family to attend medical school. She is a native of the San Gabriel Valley located East of Los Angeles, CA. She pursued her educational interests close to home at Pomona College in Claremont, and the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in LA. While at Pomona she developed interests in chemistry and Chicano/a studies, education, community involvement, and mentorship. That’s where the seeds of community medicine and social justice were planted. Following graduation, she pursued her interest in education through teaching before pursuing a post-bac and applying to medical school. At Keck she participated in the Primary Care Program, allowing her to work with Family Medicine physicians in local underserved communities. Through this experience and throughout medical school she remained committed to working with Spanish-speaking and immigrant populations, much like the one she grew up in. Her extracurricular activities included the Latino Medical Student Association and its local mentorship and community outreach efforts, as well as research. She was selected as a scholar of the National Health Service Corps, and the recipient of the Keck School of Medicine Silver Primary Care Award in 2018. Additional interests in medicine include health literacy, women’s health, procedures, and medical education. Outside of medicine she enjoys cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and dog. Despite being a So-Cal native, she is thrilled to move to Santa Rosa and enjoy all it has to offer.
