This is a new elective started in 2019-20 academic year being offered as part of the elective selective rotation. We at SRFMR understand that POCUS already is and will continue to be a large part of the career of family physicians. We always try to stay up to date on providing the best care of our patients and adopting new technologies where appropriate. For this reason, we have created a POCUS elective that allows R2 and R3 residents a self-directed, but guided rotation to improve their ultrasound skills. From the first day of residency, all residents will be given the opportunity to use ultrasound in the hospital and in clinic. Residents are encouraged to use ultrasound on OB and medicine admissions in the hospital as well as on appropriate clinic patients. Our goal is that in the future, all SRFMR graduates will be “signed off” and credentialed to do POCUS when leaving our program to best prepare them for their career.
