Anita Vasudevan, MD, MPH
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School; Anita was born and raised in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Growing up in a home with her grandmother made her very tied to her family’s South Indian roots. After graduating college at the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in biology, she moved to Dallas for medical school. While in college and medical school, Anita became very passionate about the social determinants of health and physicians being advocates for their patients outside of a clinical setting. In addition to pursuing her MPH during medical school, she became involved in research projects about adolescent childbearing, adolescent marriage, and health professions students’ attitudes regarding care for transgender patients.

Anita was also a chairperson and volunteer for her medical school’s annual health fair for the community. While a medical student, she also founded a service organization aimed at fighting food insecurity in the Dallas community. In addition to volunteer events, she developed a podcast to help both students and physicians become more knowledgeable about food insecurity at the local, state, and national levels. Anita also feels quite strongly about more medical students choosing family medicine as a specialty, and she created a podcast through the Family Medicine Interest Group to encourage students to go into this exciting field. Anita’s interests within family medicine include reproductive health, LGBTQI health, and community medicine. She hopes to help bridge the gap between medicine and public health. Outside of medicine, you might find Anita trying out a new vegetarian recipe, searching for good Indian restaurants, working out, watching TV, or listening to podcasts. However, you will most likely find her hanging out with her fiancé, Michael, and their two cats at home (she was officially voted class Pet Parent by her medical school classmates!).
