Elizabeth White, MD

California University of Science and Medicine.
Liz grew up in Oakdale, California, a rural Central Valley town nicknamed the “Cowboy Capital of the World.” She spent her childhood catching bugs, riding horses, making art, and performing in a traveling steel-drum band. Raised by a family of educators (her best friends!) who instilled values of open-mindedness and lifelong learning, Liz became fascinated by the brain-body connection. She later attended UCLA, where she became involved in neuroscience research and graduated with highest honors in Neuroscience and Evolutionary Medicine. Her studies investigated how transcranial ultrasound can influence wakefulness, contributing to potential new treatments for disorders of consciousness. In medical school, Liz developed a profound love for community advocacy as she served as student body president, volunteered in hospice care, and mentored local youth seeking careers in medicine.

As she entered the clinical setting, Liz channeled her passion for human connection. During her volunteer work, she began making drawings at the bedside, which later evolved into creating commemorative paintings for patients at the end of life. These opportunities deepened her understanding of healing and presence across life’s stages, inspiring her to lead two volunteer initiatives to bring art therapy into medical settings. Her view of each person as a unique work of art continues to guide her approach to medicine.

As a family medicine physician, Liz finds motivation in meeting patients where they are and appreciating the beauty in each person’s story. This perspective informs her interests in substance use disorder treatment and geriatric medicine. She is especially thrilled to be returning to Northern California, where she can reunite with family and explore the redwood groves. Outside of medicine, you can find Liz hosting paint nights with friends, frolicking through Yosemite, playing games on her Nintendo Switch, or squeezing her partner Nick and two cats, Bob and Shiloh.
