Robert Mejia Powell, MD
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Rob was born in Orange County, California, and lived there for ten years before moving to Phoenix and later Kansas City where he finished high school. After high school he went to college at the University of Missouri (Mizzou!) to major in magazine journalism and minor in Spanish. His career in journalism took him to Birmingham, Alabama, New York City, and then to Yuma, Arizona, where he worked as the night news editor at the local newspaper.

It was in Yuma where he transitioned from journalism to work with the local hospital helping them with their Epic installation and go live. He then found work with UC San Diego working with their Epic department. It was there he realized that he had aspirations to work directly with patients and started studying to get into medical school.
In medical school in Cincinnati, Rob found a passion in working with the local Latino community made up largely of immigrants from Central America and Guatemala. Working with a local immigrant outreach nonprofit during the pandemic, Rob helped with vaccination and screening events, health fairs, and community outreach events. It was through that work that he realized the potential of primary care to reach and care for the underserved. His other medical interests include HIV medicine and prevention, LGBT+ care, and reproductive justice.
Outside of medicine, Rob enjoys singing in choirs, camping and hiking with friends, outdoor HIIT workouts, exploring on his bike, and looking for the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants wherever he can find them.
