Carlos Henrique Valente Moreira, MD, PhD
Universidade Federal do Ceará. Carlos's journey began in Fortaleza, a beach city in Northeast Brazil, where he started his medical education at the Universidade Federal do Ceará. Following, he volunteered as a Brazilian Army physician, providing crucial medical care in the resource-scarce Amazon Rainforest. This experience broadened his medical knowledge and instilled a profound respect for diverse health beliefs and practices.
This adventure fueled his curiosity about tropical and neglected diseases, particularly those affecting underserved populations, guiding him to a residency |
in Infectious Diseases (ID) at the Instituto de Infectologia 'Emilio Ribas,' an influential ID-related hospital in Brazil. This was followed by a Ph.D. in Infectious Diseases and Parasitology. Through encounters with patients from all walks of life, Carlos realized the importance of addressing the social determinants of health beyond the clinical setting."
In 2020, Carlos moved to the U.S. to pursue a Master's in Clinical Research at the University of California, San Francisco, specializing in Implementation and Data Sciences. After his Master's, he joined the ZSFGH / UCSF Ward 86 / 87 research team, contributing to meaningful research. Carlos is furthering his training in family medicine, ready to apply his experience while learning from his colleagues and the communities he serves.
Beyond medicine, Carlos is curious and has been tinkering with renewable DIY off-grid projects (solar and wind), gardening, and cooking. The moments spent with his energetic children and wife are most precious to him, filling his life with laughter, love, and a bit of entropy.
